Chapter 8 "The Sneaks"

January 23rd 2000, Beverly Hilton Hotel, CA.

Scott was getting dressed, he was getting into his tuxedo.  He hated dressing up. He would much rather, be bare foot, shirtless and wearing cut offs.  But what surfer did?  He sighed looking at himself in the mirror.  Scott had been nominated for a Golden globe.  He was happy for that, not really nervous.  If he won, great and if he didn't great.  He would still act in his TV show.  He had asked Tany to be his date, she had at first been hesitant.  Scott told her that they didn't have to out themselves just yet, if she didn't want them to.  She felt a little bad, but Scott assured her it was OK.  They had decided that Scott would arrive before Tany and that They would meet on the "red carpet" and pretend to be just seeing each other there.  Of course the whole time she would really be his date.  What they were going to say, you ask?  Keep reading and you will find out.

Anyway, Scott looked once more in the mirror.  He would thank his mother of course and Al, because he was the one to encourage Scott to try out for the role.

Scott walked down stairs, it felt a little weird not having Biff there with him.  But he knew where he was and Biff was enjoying his new job.

Scott did arrive before Tany, he was first up.  "Scott is it true, you and Tany Connors are dating?"  Someone shouted at him.  Scott turned toward the voice as he was getting his picture taken, "We are good friends."

He continued down the red carpet, until he was met by Mary Livings from "Entertainment Tonight",  "Scott, you look really nice in a tux."  She said flirty.  "Thank you, I don't really feel comfortable but it's a must."  "Now you are nominated for best actor in a drama series, how did you feel when you found out?"  "I think I was a little shocked to be honest."

Just then Tany arrived on the Red carpet. *Note to reader I am going to be switching from Scott's point of view to Tany's. "You must have a speech prepared?"  "No, actually I don't," Scott said.

Biff opened the door for Tany and several fans, yelled her name.  She turned and waved to them.  She was also stopped to have her picture taken.  "Tany, Scott tells us that you two are just good friends."  "Yes, he graduated with my brother Al."  "So you two are not dating?"  "He is a long time family friend."  The one paparazzi tried to continue but luckily Tany was escorted down the red carpet.

"Are you a little nervous?"  "I guess, I wouldn't be human if I......" Just then Tany walked by.

Tany gave a little hello nod and continued down the red carpet.

"My next question was going to be if the rumor was true that, you and Tany were dating."  Scott laughed, "She is my best buds little sister."  And then Scott was escorted along.

Tany had stopped a few times to answer some questions and everytime she stopped, they asked the same question, "If Scott and Tany were dating?"  She gave pretty much the same response.  "He is a good friend of the family."  Never really answering the question.

Scott was also stopped, to answer questions more for his nominations.  Of course, he wasn't immuned to the rumor mill and he too was asked the same question,  "Are you and Tany Connors dating?"  "He responded different to all of them, "We are really good friends,"  "She's a really good friend."  And my personal favorite, "Tany and I have known each other since High School."

Tany was now waiting to get into the Theater.  Scott was about four people behind her.  The man asked for her name and she gave it, "You will be sitting next to Scott A. Wright, is that correct."  "Yes," She said as she turned toward Scott and gave him a wink.  Scott smiled and he winked back.  She looked really good in her gown.  But he had to pretend not to really even care.

Tany was seated first.  She was a little nervous that if the camera, panned on them it would show them holding hands.

Maybe she wouldn't hold hands.  She was praying for him to win.

Scott sat down and said, "I think we pulled it off."  "I hope so."  Scott and Tany both wanted to shout at the top of their lungs that they were dating each other.  But they also both have been burned by the paparazzi.  It would be better if they could just keep it private for just a little while longer.

These next set of photos are just me goofing off and A butt shot.  I wanted to use the butt shot, but the other looked better.  I know for us that write, we tend to see a shot in our head and then it doesn't really work for that part.  So here you go.

Scott's Butt Shot.

Chapter 7 "The Clinger"

December  10th, 1999  McCarran  International Airport.

Time was flying by for Tany, even though she hadn't seen Scott in almost a month.  She was so busy with rehearsing and touring that she didn't really have time to miss him.  He called her once a day, just to say hi.  Every week he bought her flowers and he had some bbq chips delivered to where ever she was staying.  Christmas was in two weeks and she hadn't gotten Scott anything.  Maybe she would pick up something in Little Rock.  Tany was sitting in the airport waiting to fly to the next city, she picked up the phone and dialed.  "Hey, I am obviously away from my phone, please leave your name and number and I will try my hardest to get back to you...... BEEP."  "Hey, sis call me as soon as you get this, kay m-bye."  Tany needed to talk to Cintia.  Of course she was probably at school.  She looked around to see where her brother was and of course he had disappeared.  She decided it was the bathroom, they were waiting for their next flight.  They still had another hour.  She thought about going to get a cup of coffee, but then she would be up for awhile.  It was times like this that she wished she had a gameboy or something like that.  Maybe she would pick one up on her next shopping trip.

Jonny was coming around the corner, "Hey there lil' sis, what's up?"  Jonny looked so much better now that he was free from drugs and her.
"Nothing, just thinking about getting a gameboy."
"Yeah, that would be kind of cool."
"Where were you?"  He gave Tany a quizzical look, "I went for a smoke."

"Oh, yes I forgot."

Tany was now in the bathroom, apparently she thought she should use it before she got on the plane.  Jonny laid on the bench waiting.  He hated lay overs and no matter what, he hated flying.  But Michael was insistent.  It would save them time and money, that was a crock.  He was actually looking forward to ditching this dumb ass and working with Al.  Al was better at math and Jonny had already okayed it, Al would be taking over as his accountant as well.

Jonny heard a noise and sat up.  There on the next bench was a woman in her early twenties.  She was pretty Jonny thought.  "No, Jonny stop that, you are getting a divorce."

She wasn't paying any attention to him, she was reading a book.
He was watching how she would turn the page.  It must've been a great book because she wasn't looking at him at all.

Finally she looked up, feeling his eyes on her. "Hello." "Hi, sorry, I was just thinking that must be a great book."  "It is now, if you please can I go back to it."
"Ok,"  He said looking down at his watch.

"Do you always give up that easy?"
Making sure he heard her right, "I'm sorry."

"Wow, you weren't like this in school at all."
"Pardon me, do I know you?"  Jonny questioned.

"I don't know if you know me, but we went to UCLA together." Jonny was just starting to be in the limelight, so he thought this girl was just messing with him.
"So we went to UCLA, were we in any classes together?"
"Two to be exact."
Jonny was starting to doubt her, "Ok, what classes?

"We were in, Music Technique and Understanding Musical Genres, I am not some weird fan."
"Did I say you were? I am just racking my brain."
"Will it help if I give you my name?"
"Yes." Jonny sighed.
"It's Jennifer Clinger."

Jonny sat there a moment remembering where everyone sat, then recognition came over his face, "We, Jeff and I called you Clinger the Singer."
"Yeah, that was me."  Jonny nodded to acknowledge her but neither said anything.

Tany came bouncing back to her seat.  Jennifer turned her back toward them.

"You don't have to act like we weren't talking."  Tany turned to look at who he was talking about.  Jennifer turned around, she stuck out her hand to give to Tany, "Hi, I'm Jennifer and your brother and I use to go to school together."

With her eyebrow arched, Tany turned towards her brother.  Jonny smiled, understanding her concern.  "We went to UCLA, she was in my class that started all of this."
"Oh, nice to meet you, Jennifer is it?"

"Actually only my mother calls me Jennifer, it's Just Jenny."
"I like her, can we keep her."  Everyone laughed.
"That would be kind of cool, but I have to get back to Los Angeles, some of us work for a living."
"So what do you do?"  Jonny being nosy.
"Well I actually work as a waitress."
"Why?" Tany said and then looked down because she knew it was the wrong thing.
"I found out school was more expensive when your parents stop giving you money.  And I don't want to ask daddy for a hand out. So I am living in California for the time being."
"So where are you headed?," again Jonny being nosy.
"My mother wants me for Christmas so I am going to Illinois."

"We are heading to Little Rock, tonight and then....."
Jonny started but Jenny interupted, "I know."  Jonny tilted his head in a not understanding manner.
"I am a big fan, but not a weird crazy fan."
"So you knew this whole time and you haven't asked for our autographs?"  impressed Tany said.
"Yes, but I figured you guys wanted to stay incognito."
"Really we weren't, we just go where we are told, but we have to use the airport too."  Jonny explained.

Jenny caught her flight, Jonny hoped he would see her again.  "The Connors", were now on there way to Little Rock. Because Jonny was trying very hard to stay on the wagon he didn't ask for anything to drink.  Tany sat back and put her headphones on.  It's not that Jonny and Tany didn't have anything to say to each other, it's just that Tany was preoccupied with Scott and Jonny was thinking about his divorce.  In about three months Jonny would be a free man.  He was giving Cheryl the house, but he was taking the cars.  Cheryl was not contesting.  She couldn't, she got him addicted to drugs and Jonny could prove she was still taking them.  Jonny was going to start fresh in 2000.

Scott had been working out with Biff. Biff was now officially Scott's bodyguard.  Though Biff would become Tany's driver/ body guard starting in January. Scott was getting tired, he had worked another 16 hour day.  Jo-Beth was leaving the show after this week.  It was bitter sweet, but he would miss her.  Although her character's relationship with Todd (Scott's) had been resolved, in fact Todd wasn't seeing anyone at the moment.  Scott knew the writers would bring someone in.

"Do you want to go home or go get something to eat?" Biff suggested.
"I am not sure, I want to talk to her, that's what I want."
"Yeah, so why don't you call her."
"I can't she is getting ready to fly," He looked at his watch, "Correction, she is flying."
"Young love there is nothing like it."

Chapter 6 "The Kicker"

November 23rd 1999, Arlington, TX.

Al and Jonny found a good lawyer in LA and as soon as Jonny got back he would start the process of Divorcing Cheryl, but in the mean time he couldn't just kick her out on the curb so he put the pretense on.  Jonny should get an academy award for his performance.  Cheryl, Beth and Tany had gone shopping but Tany lost patience with Cheryl so they were back at the house. Which was fine with Tany.  Tany, Beth, Cinita and Cheryl were sitting in the enclosed porch.  Tany and Cintia were talking about Cintia maybe joining the band.

Cheryl gave a sigh.

"What don't you think I am good enough?"

"I didn't say anything."  Cheryl said.
"You sighed."
"So."

Tany was trying very hard not to be in this conversation.
"So you think you are so much better than us, you don't even have a job, you are mooching off my brother."
"Listen, you little scank. You know nothing about me."  Cheryl curled her lips.
"Hey, that is not necessary, Cheryl."  Beth chimed in.
"Whatever, you are nothing but a traitor."
"What did we do to you?"
"You should just stay out of it traitor."
Tany had, had it, "You come into our home and treat us like this, who do you think you are."
"Oh, another country heard from."
"Cheryl, what happened to you to make you so mean."
'"Nothing happened, you are just losers and it's a waste that there are people like you in the world."

Just then, Beth Manners went red in the face and all of a sudden, Cheryl was laying on the floor.  Beth had knocked her out.

Tany couldn't believe Beth would do something like that.
"You just totally knocked her out."  Beth was catching her breath, "Sorry, she did deserve it."  Cintia just sat there, not knowing whether to cheer or say something.

Ciera heard the smack and the drop and went running into the room.  "What in St. Joseph, happened."
Cintia piped up, "Uh, well, um Cheryl was calling us all kinds of names and Beth decked her."  Tany saw her mother smile but then put her worried look on.
"I am so sorry, Mama Connors. I didn't mean to dishonor your house, she just...."

"I know, go get Jonny and Al."  She said turning to Cinita.
"Why do I have to be the one, why......."
Ciera through clinched teeth, "Go Get them now, Cinita Ciera Lynn Connors."  Cintia knew that if her mother said her full name, the next thing would be a grounding or worse and long lecture from dad.  "Ok."  She got up and went to find them.

When she found them they were playing pool with Scott and Juno.

"You guys need to get upstairs, Beth Smacked Cheryl."
"What?" surprise on Al's face.
"Dude, your woman doesn't take no crap, does she?"
"I guess not."  At that moment, Al was glad he was going to ask her to marry him.

Cheryl was going to have a bruise on her face, but she would be ok.  It was decided that for the best, Cheryl needed to go home.  Jonny and Cheryl had a conversation, in which Jonny told her he was divorcing her and there was nothing she could do.  She needed to go home and pack all of her stuff and leave.  He didn't apologize but he did wish her well.  Cheryl had just left and for the first time in almost two years Jonny felt lighter.  In fact he felt really good.  All the Connors decided they would go out and eat.  Tany's favorite place to eat.  It was Lugi's pizzeria.
She loved it, because Luigi was her number one fan.  He had a picture of himself and her hanging in between the menus.  He also had one of Tany's cowboy hats that she signed.  Plus the food wasn't bad either.  Especially the Pasta De'marinara.

While they were there, Alberto, Jonny and Tany had a little announcement they wanted to make.

Jonny looked at his sister and she said, "No, you go big bro."
"Ok, well y'all know that Miracle is doing really good."  Everyone at the table nodded their head, John's chest was out, you could tell he was proud of his children.
"Ok well, Eric signed us for a two record deal."  There were congratulations all around.
"We got a signing bonus."
"And..."  John said.
"And it was 250 each, per album."
Juno, who hadn't really paid attention to the family "business" spoke up, "You mean you got a measly 2 dollars and fifty cents."  Everyone laughed.
"No, silly we got 250,000 now and we will get the next later."  Juno's eyes went wide.
"If we were single artist we would have gotten 500."
"He signed the checks before we left." Tany and Jonny pulled out their checks.  John smiled, "So what are you two going to do with your money?"
"I think I am going to buy Midnight."
"Princess, you don't have to do that."
"Yes, daddy I do. I want to."
"I am going to use mine to get a divorce." He said jokingly.  Everyone at the table laughed.

Al stood up, "I would like to also," he bent down on one knee and pulled out a small ring box.
"Elizabeth Anne Manners, will you do the honor of becoming my wife, and join this crazy family?"  Tears were streaming down her face.  "Al, why didn't you tell me?"
"That would have ruined the surprise, silly."
"Yes, I would be honored to be your wife."  She got up and both Al and Beth kissed and hugged.  Tany and Scott looked at each other.  Jonny walked over to Beth and very softly said, "Welcome to the family." (Reader I told you to remember what Beth said, way back in Season 1 chapter 4).
"I am glad to be joining your family."  Jonny and Beth started to laugh.  Tany gave Beth a hug and welcomed her to the family.  Scott congratulated Al, "Scott, I already discussed with Jonny and he agreed."
"Yeah?"  Scott knew Al was getting ready to ask him to be the best man.
"I would like you to be my best man."
"Of, Course dude."  Jonny winked at Tany.  Why he did that, Tany had no idea, but later Tany found out that Al had asked Jonny and Jonny told him to ask Scott.  Tany started to regain some of the respect she had for him.  They had all finished eating, John started to pay and Scott told him he would.
"Scott, I appreciate that you want to pay but, I got it."  Scott knew enough to not argue with John Connors.
Since Tany and Scott drove together, they rode home together.  On the way, Scott talked about how excited he was for Al and how happy he was about it.
"Scott, what do you want out of life?" Tany asked.
"How do you mean?"
"Well, I mean like, what do you want to be when you grow up?"  "Oh, I think I am what I am going to be.  I would like to be in a movie maybe."
"Yeah, I suppose you are what you are going to be."
"What about you, what do you want to be when you grow up?"
"I always thought, I would be a ranchers wife, own a ranch and raise horses, but I guess like you. I am being what I am going to be."  "Mmh, maybe one day we will own a ranch."
